Mountainbiking mit Nicole und Georg

By

Last Sunday, a new point has been on the agenda: mountainbiking in the Black Forest. My good friend Nicole (who has already been here for the 3rd time) and her boyfriend Georg (an experienced mountainbiker) visited me. They wanted to try out biking here. And I joined them. Sportspeople are my future clientel. And I think about providing 1-2 mountainbikes to them. A very nice company here in Freudenstadt offered me to test a bike once. And this has been the occasion to do so.

Out of the newly signposted tours in the region (an amazing project according to the experts), we chose the Hirschkopf-trailtour. And we did it ... or the beginning of it.

Next year, it will hopefully be the other way around. My parents will be biking while I care about my guests:

Mein Gemüsegarten - my vegetable garden

By

As I explained yesterday, I felt like starting my own vegetable garden this season. As I have been aware that such a garden can quickly become a time-consuming hobby, I said from the beginning that I would take it easy. And that I wouldn't need to have the perfect garden and that I be okay with not getting a rich harvest. I'd just have a try.

Completely clueless with respect to gardening, I did also in this case accept some initial support from my dad who has been here the first week of May. And this leads me to the story about the tomatoes. It's kind of a wonder that I have even been eating my first tomato this season. Actually, I didn't want to grow tomatoes in the beginning as I know that they are in need of care and delicate plants. But as "the little tomato house did not serve any other purpose at my grandmother's house" according to my father, he brought it to my place. And we planted some tomatoes in the garden at the beginning of May. The first people passing by all reacted the same way: they were truly shocked about what we did. The comment was: "We are not at the lake of Constance here". You don't plant tomatoes outside until end of May (at the earliest) in the Black Forest. The climate is rougher here. Well, at that point, the tomatoes had already been planted. And even if I did not have any hope, they survived their first night. I did not see myself in the role of the tomato-caretaker in advance, but I still did it: I covered them with foil to enhance their chances of survival. And I watered them every second day, as no rain comes through the roof. There are some green tomatoes on the tomato vines by now, I hope very much that I will be able to harvest them soon.
