Die erste Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte - the first Black Forest Cake

One of my projects for 2018 mentioned in my annual outlook has been the fabrication of a Black Forest Cake. Not that it would be my favourite cake ever, but it is so popular on every party. And this even beyond the Black Forest, so the cake fits undoubtedly very well into a Black Forest Lodge. Last year, the Lodge was quite full despite bad weather and before the official opening. On the rainy Sunday Easter holiday, I thought that coffee and cake with the guests would hae been a good idea.

This year, also on a rainy Sunday Easter holiday and with an almost full Lodge, the baking of the Black Forest Cake as well as the coffee and cake with guests has been put into practise.

Let's talk about the cake first: I had already participated in a seminar on the topic one year ago. Having compared many different recipes and gotten an overview over the layers of the cake last week, I bought all the ingredients. And then we got started on Sunday. It was a quite time-consuming exercise... but really fun as well. The cake was a hit with the guests and it was good, yes, but there is some potential for improvement. That's way I will definitely have another try in the future ;-)

The past Easter holidays were generally speaking really nice. I was happy that the house became busy trought many individual travellers or coupes who got in touch with each other. Except for one lovely regular guest (hello, Julia), there have only been new guests. Everybody seemed to feel comfortable and happy. And so the host was happy as well.
